Skyera announced Sky Eagle, a 500-terabyte flash array that will ride a Fibre Channel, iSCSI, Infiniband, or PCI Express network, blowing past capacity claims of many of its competitors in the crowded space. The device uses Toshiba's new A19nm 64Gbit MLC flash chips. Skyera would not say when the full-depth 1U system will ship.
The startup is preparing to ship a much more modest 44TByte array in a half-depth 1U box by the end of September. It supports iSCSI and the NFS file system. Company representatives would not discuss or show anything inside either system. Systems are priced based on $3 per gigabyte of flash.
