I just wished the maximum rotation speed was quite a bit faster. 450 degrees a second may sound like a not, but even for personal navigation that could be too slow. It will depend on whether thats instantaneous of average. A person walking and turning around can do 180 degrees in less than 1/2 a second and peaks much higher. Same even for a car doing a U-Turn.

I see your point--yes it could be faster--but I think their emphasis was on stability over speed.

Interesting. What would the best uses for the Chicklet-sized IMU be if it's not fast enough?

With a range of 450 deg/sec and 16-bit output, an LSB is 50 deg/hr. And where are the specs for noise, bandwidth, performance over temperature, etc.?

The bottom line here is that they claim 7 deg/hr bias but an LSB is 50 deg/hr.

As far as one count is the minimun level the internal ADC can detect (typically the output is in 2's complement).  For example for a 16 bit 2's complement part you can have each count as 0.015 deg/sec.

The bottom line is that original statement was incorrect:

 

180 degrees in less than 1/2 a second is actually 360 per second so this gyro can detect that.

 

and also that Q-MEMS seems like a superior approach compared to plain silicon MEMS vanilla, also I heard they are trying to do a 2x2 mm gyro based on Q-MEMS and that is the bottom line here
