MEMS requires different expertise, and uses different development tools, to craft these tiny mechanisms that adhere to different laws of physics, such as "stiction"--a measure of how much these tiny parts stick together.

An indication that being good at MEMS may just not be possible for a 'traditional' silicon vendor.

Are there fundamentals that keep a company that has lots of 'standard' silicon device and process knowhow from making MEMS work? Anyone have some additional thoughts?
