GeekRoo's Fairywren Mini-ITX Motherboard
Perhaps the "mother" of all accessories for the Raspberry Pi is GeekRoo's Fairywren Mini-ITX Motherboard that turns the Pi into a full-fledged computer. The board was designed to allow users to "drop-in" their Raspberry Pi and connect it directly to the board, thus making it a CPU hub of sorts.
Users can outfit the board with a 2.5-inch hard-drive for storage, effectively surpassing the storage limits of the Pi. The Fairywren hosts a plethora of ports, including a 4-port USB hub as well as an RS232 serial port for a terminal connection. There is also an Arduino UNO built in to the board that allows users to turn the Fairywren on/off and to control an Xbee module (not included). A built-in IR module lets users control the mini PC by remote control, which is great if you intend to use the mini-PC as a media center. The board is designed to fit into a custom acrylic enclosure along with a metal black box to house all the cable connections.
The Fairywren was successfully funded through Kickstarter, however we cannot confirm whether interested parties can still acquire one through a pledge or if it's available on GeekRoo's website. View the video from the Kickstarter page here:
