MausBerry Circuits' Power Supply Ignition Switch
Raspberry Pi accessories can be used in conjunction with vehicles. Such is the case with MausBerry Circuits' Power Supply Ignition Switch. The switch allows users to take their Pi on the road and power it through the vehicle's electrical system. What makes this switch unique is that fact that it senses when the vehicle's ignition is engaged or turned off and then responds accordingly by safely powering the PI on or off.
The attachment features a built-in 12/14V to 5V step-down converter, which communicates with the Pi through two of its GPIO pins and gives the SBC instructions based on the vehicle's ignition (connected using wires behind the vehicle's radio). An interesting facet of the add-on is that it can retain power for 20 minutes through its power-down cycle, so those making frequent stops don't have to wait for the boot cycle to restart (done through a selector switch on the device). Forget you left your Pi running in the vehicle while you went to bed? No problem, the power supply has an automatic shutdown feature that kicks in after four hours of non-use so users will not drain the batteries.
