Free PS4s
daleste   11/15/2013 9:51:53 PM
I heard a news story today on the radio here in Dallas.  Dez Bryant was in a Walmart today and bought a PS4.  He also bought PS4s for everyone in line.  Wish I had been there.

don't we all! I don't plan on buying one, but I wouldn't stop someone else from buying me one!

Where does he live? I willl then have to relocate! I think PS4 will do well and hopefully put a break on the decline of console as reported by the media. I think, however, that hard gamers will never go for virtual keyboards on iPad for the feeling of consoles. It will be here for a long time.

How much power consumption?
_hm   11/16/2013 6:03:52 AM
How much power is required for PS4?

Can Sony make Game Console like laptop so we can play it on airport or in mall? Like Apple MacBooks, it can last for about 10 hours of play.

My Sony PS3 doesnt come up it says some drive issue, tried going to Sony's showroom and they say since you bought it from outside India we cant do anything. Also the hard drive is not available, we could have replace it ourselves.

New technology in PS 4 ?
chipmonk0   11/18/2013 1:44:23 PM
The photo of the processor shows a metal window frame around the die. This could be a stiffener, used to stiffen the organic substrate ( green ) on which the die is assembled. Such substrates are called Coreless substrates, w/o the usual PCB like Core that gives the Substrate its strength & rigidity but adds inductance to the power delivery and signal path thus slowing things down electrically. Coreless substrates are troublesome & expensive so used thus far only for high performance Servers etc. If this is indeed a Coreless substrate then would be the first use in a Game system.

Is the new PS 4 much faster than the last model ?

Would ChipWorks be interested in verifying if Sony is indeed using a Coreless substrate and Stiffener ? They just need to look at their x - sections & x - rays once again.

@Sheetal.Pandey , the PS3 uses a normal laptop drive. There are several guides available on the web that can tell you more. The PS3 can apparently format a blank drive and put the OS on it.

@anon5203197, Thanks. Will try this weekend. We approached Sony but looks like they just replace it with new one and dont repair the existing one, here in India. And for doing that they were asking for original bills, who will keep bills for 3 to 4 years :-)...and that too we bought international so they were very resistant about doing anything.

What is drive doing there when we can use solid state devices? Maybe Sony should replace the HDD with SSD to avoid the problem of system hanging up. Generally, PS4 has been getting a lot of positive reviews.

I guess that's called PS Vita. :)

From the ad, you can play PS4 game on Vita and vice versa. I haven't got my hand on it. I will see how well it works. On the other hands, MS is doing the same thing with XBox One and Windows 8.

Yes, you are right they are called the game emulators, siumltaniously in this case if the person is more focused towards the games he will be more inclined for the game station, in this case it would be nice to havei t possiblity to use the normal OS on the game station. So what I was discussing is reverse emulation.

Sure they can, it was called the Vita. The problem is, you just have to decide where your focus is. The PS4 has the focus of being extremely powerful. You can't focus on that an compromize on power (to prolong battery life). Even the gaming laptops that do OK in terms of graphics suck their batteries dry in an instant.

Postmortem like TearDown

Nice work done, this is a post-mortem like Teardown of PS4. Looking at this teardown one will be eagerly waiting for Reverse Emulators that can run OS like Windows, Linux on Gaming Consoles, Emulators were used to run GameCDs on Computers but looking at this much sophisticated hardware I would love to have Reverse Emulators to use these devices in daily computing needs.

The PS3 natively supported Linux but they took that away for some reason.

It would have been nice if it was continued, I hope it will be available in open source communities. As providing support to this kind of initiatives will be beyond the original scope support infrastructure.

Truly you must be a CEO cuz only someone like that would assume a "reverse emulator" would have the necessary performace to run your "daily computing",,,
