The year 2013 brought numerous significant events and moments. As in most years, conferences and tradeshows were where the action often happened, especially with regard to new products. For me, the most significant event of 2013 was my return to covering test and measurement in late September. Janine Love did a superb job as test and measurement editor.
Before compiling this slideshow, I asked many people for their thoughts on major events in test and measurement during 2013. Nearly everyone included the same thing on the list: the spinoff of Agilent Technologies' test and measurement business (slide 12). The new year first bring the announcement of the new company name. If the word on the street is at all accurate, we won't have to wait long. The division will be complete by the end of 2014.
In addition to industry events, there were a number of memorable moments in 2013. For example, there were updates to industry standards, company name changes, and equipment donations.

Industry Event: DesignCon 2013
DesignCon 2013 showed that 28 Gbit/s is everywhere when it comes to high-speed digital signals. Companies such as TE Connectivity and Molex had them on display, each with an oscilloscope showing a clean eye diagram. Expect to see more at DesignCon 2014. The conference program has added papers on RF and optical technologies in 2014.
Recently, EDN launched DesignCon Central, a place where you can learn about all things DesignCon.
Do your high-speed backplanes deliver clean eye diagrams as clean as those in the DesignCon exhibit hall?
