1. Cooper Union
Located in New York's East Village neighborhood, Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art consists of three different schools: the Irwin S. Chanin School of Architecture, School of Art, and Albert Nerken School of Engineering. Founded in 1859, the school runs on a semester-based academic calendar. The three schools are brought together under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, which offers a core curriculum to Cooper Union's entire student body based on courses from all three schools.

Of the 880 students enrolled at the school, a solid majority of 63 percent are male. There are fewer than 20 students in 69.5 percent of its classes, and the average freshman retention rate is 93.5 percent, according to US News.

In keeping with the beliefs of Cooper Union's founder that education should be available to all, the school maintains a generous scholarship program. In the 2014/2015 school year, the college is giving all incoming students a half-tuition scholarship to drastically reduce the school's published tuition of $41,400. Last year, all student's got a full tuition rebate.

Thanks for the update on Cooper Union. I'm glad to know they compromised on the tuition issue. A great school in a great location.
