The march to solid state storage is inevitable for the vast majority of larger IT organizations. The benefits are truly compelling for many apps. The question is how quickly should IT managers migrate to SSDs/flash storage and more importantly for which application workloads. What's critical are tools that allow storage architects to understand which workloads are best served by solid state. Users should look into workload modeling and perfromance validation solutions like Load Dynamix to ensure they align performance requirements to storage deployments/acquisitions. Despite flash vendor claims, HDDs are still cheaper and most workloads will be fine with hybrid storage - if you truly understand your performance requirements.
