PCI and PCIe made a dramatic impact on the electronics industry as a whole, far, far beyond our humble goals in 1990 as we founded the PCI-SIG.  Hats off to those who have worked over the many years to keep PCI current and relevant.  Hey, all we where trying to do is get a replacement interconnect for the ISA, EISA, MicroChannel, VESA Local Bus.... to take the PC to commodity, centralize efforts, and improve performance.
