The time has come for Smart Sensors with Haptic Feedback. Years ago I had a computer joystick with vibrational feedback for gaming which was an interesting novelty (and certainly added to the realism of the flight simulator). A touch surface with feedback could provide basic functions like tactile confirmation of touchsceen option selections. It could then move into much more exotic applications in which the surface actually adopted different "feels" so that relief maps had physical relief or users could feel cloth samples on the Internet before buying them.
