I think in five years Watson will be engaged by Pentagon for developing war strategies. This is one area no one is thinking about. If they have this massive insight about life, it is possible Watson will get some generals to early retirements.

You can bet the military is already using Watson for scenario planning. Homeland security too. Don't hold your breath on early retirement however...

The historical data mining and analysis is something computer used to take into account while giving different scenarios and then it was upto humans to make sense of the results, which sometime can be very complex and can take months for humans to conclude. I think Watson will replace the human intervention to a bare minimum so that the decision time can be shortered.

Just cut off funding and make offers for generals to leave by choice. Prove there is nothing for them to do. That will do it. They did in NASA and can do it anywhere.

A better use would be for it to figure out how to avoid the wars in the first place.

What a perfect world it would have been. Perhaps some industries will be out of business for good.

Computers are moving into a new level of usefulness if they generate new ideas rather than simply crunching numbers to test the hypotheses posed by their human programmers.
