Good point. It would help if errors were tracked and reported. Big data analysis could then zero in on common failure mechanisms....

My experience on personal computers in a benign home environment is that memory failures increase through time. They are resolved by removing and reseating the memory chips. This suggests that long term connector corrosion / tarnishing is the primary cause of failure - one which would not be detected by exhaustive lab testing of chips before they are shipped.  What is being done to reduce the failures associated with the connectors?
