Like they did and got fined for with all the PC manufacturers years ago.

In fact they are still being prosecuted in the EU for their unethical behaviour.

Maybe Intel should buy Qualcomm now

Now that Qualcomm has grabbed NXP-Freescale to enter the real automotive market, perhaps Intel could simply wait and while and then buy that entire complex of design, fab, test and support for full automotive products.  Auto companies like broad-spectrum suppliers, at least in past.  And since most automotive products are systems on chip or flip chip modules, packaging experience with reliability knowledge is important.  Just my off-the-wall thought for next few years.

I think Intel like Nvidia is mostly gunning to get into the compute that will be necessary for self driving cars. How could they have missed that when there are none such public vehicles yet?

Intel late again

Intel was late into lower power chips for laptops only saved by Israeli designers. It missed smart phone market almost completely. Same for IoT and Automotive. Catchup is costly.

Goodluck to Intel in the automotive field. Costs and quality are king. Applying some extensive integrated processor with peripherals and pitching it as automotive qualified is not easy to do. If they can throw enough resources at it it can be done but it will cost them a lot of $$$ for those sockets.
