Bosch did not design its interactive priojector for smartphones, but for a virtual  human-machine interface (HMI) on everytig from toysm to the factory floor, in industrial equipment, for robotics, medical devices, infotainment and in-car heads-up displays.

Tbis "interactive" projector will not be sold inside smartphones, but as a way to make an up 60-inch virtual touchscreen.

With a projector in a phone you have low brightness ,short battery life, relatively low resolution, as well as cost, heat and size issues. Laser is always in focus but does need keystone correction.

The brightness and efficiency are the biggest problems and the window of opportunity is somewhat closing as foldable displays in phones would increase the size of the display while making it much harder to allocate additional mechanical volume to a projector.

Lenovo a couple of years ago was showing a prototype with touch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwBem1Ul8dk

Without touch, there are some commercial products, even Samsung had a a couple http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_i8530_galaxy_beam-4566.php

Or the more recent Moto Mod, again with no touch https://www.motorola.com/us/products/moto-mods/moto-insta-share-projector

Samsung and Lenovo have already produced 'phones with built-in projectors, to a wave of apathy.

"Smartphone integrated projector" as a search term will find them.

Awesome !   Many thanks to both of you for your kind explanation

Since SP (smartphone) is now our personal Internet gateway and computer can this be integrated into a SP?  E.g., projecting video on any surface (like on ceiling while in bed ;-)) ? Or typing on a desk your SP messages?

Many thanks once again

Yes, threoretically the projector could put a 60-inch (or larger with bigger lasers) interactive display on your desktop. The RGB lasers projecxt an always-in-focus image, even on uneven surfaces, and the infrared laser reflects back to an IR photodetector, which can "see" where you are touching--to push buttons or move windows around or draw or whatever.

Would enable gadgets like this (or more advanced) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E89QuyOQvCo

It's a projector that has 3D touch. For example i would love to make the entire desk interactive, as a second display, while retaining the PC monitor.

VR and AR might be an option too at some point.

Dear Colin,

What exactly this gadget do?

Can somebody explain it to me -- a big article but the basic positioning is (for me) missing ??!!  Many thanks
