XPoint is still too close to NAND to be outside of the reach of incremental improvements such as the controller.

Why Can't intel and micron push both NAND and XPoint.

Xpoint is not displacing NAND. it does give you a choice of SSD or HDD with a cache. Intel now doesnt care which you choose. and on the DIMM side, Xpoint is maybe minimizing DRAM ... but that is even not clear.

Yes since it looks short of initial claimed expectations, XPoint might be stopped. On the other hand, XPoint might be their ticket out of Flash.

I have always wondered, what if they started to integrate a DRAM cache chip and an advanced ARM processor into 3DNAND SSDs to compete against Xpoint?  If 3Dxpoint can't beat that significantly in terms of performance and cost, then I don't know, the outlook doesn't seem so good.

Right now one is better than other only by factor of several, yet they are seeking to grow both markets faster than this small difference allows.

@resistion Do you think there will not be enough differentiation in the specs of the two in capacity, latency, etc.?

The key thing is Intel and Micron cannot promote both 3D NAND and 3D XPoint aggressively at the same time. Eventually one will win out and expand into the other's space.
