For those of us with longer memories than the past 24 hours, this is a familiar tactic of the EU.

Remember GMO seeds?

More than two decades ago the EU was up in arms over US companies exporting GMO seeds to EU countries.

At the time the EU had no GMO industry.

Now, with many EU GMO vendors, this is not a problem.

So Qualcomm has unique IP - and wants to own NXP's unique IP as well.

If a Euro company had wanted to buy NXP I'm sure the Eurocrats would have fallen over their feet to bless the deal.

Now they want to block it.

Wooden heads, wooden shoes.

Humm. The story seems to show data that Qualcomm is being sued by multiple companies with what appear to be legitimate complaints. I don't think it's fair to use a 'it's Donald Trumps fault' or, for that matter, "Bush Lied, People died" type argument in this matter of Qualcomm/NXP merger concerns. Perhaps arguing that Donald Trump is right, that the United States is facing unfair competition from foriegn firms?

This might degenerate, if the EU fines Google soon, Trump might say something stupid on Twitter, Qualcomm gets dragged into it and it goes from there.

The EU will do what it can to contain the US as the mood changed with Trump's recent trip to the G7 but the EU is unlikely to make concessions and more likely than before to try to do the right thing.
