Conference attendee Kalin Ovtcharov tries out the Atheer One headset from Atheer Labs (above). Like many headsets, the glasses (below) require an external box the size of a smartphone. It packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chip and battery suitable for four hours continupous use.
Atheer uses the time-of-flight sensor from SoftKinetic so users can control a virtual cursoe with a fingertip. It supports Metaio, Unity and Qualcom Vuforia software development platforms. The headset is slated to ship next summer for $500 or $850 for a full developer's kit. Meanwhile the company is working with potential customers on pilot projects.
