The EE Times/Deutsche Bank 2005 EDA survey's picture of IC design today shows rising complexity, high speeds and big projects. Seventy percent of the survey's 339 ASIC and IC designers work on ASICs; system-on-chip devices (SoCs), cited by 51 percent, were not far behind. More than a quarter of the respondents also design FPGAs. While structured ASICs are emerging, they have a ways to go to fully reach the mainstream.
