This month, Integrated System Design magazine launches itself into cyberspace with its World Wide Web home page: WWW.eedesign.com. On this home page, designers can access back issues of Integrated System Design . In addition, Jim Uhl, ISD's publisher, aims to make WWW.eedesign.com a destination site on the expanding public network. The site will eventually broadcast live video seminars and other areas of special interest to designers: design libraries, free software, and special vendor promotions.

Verilog HDL was approved as IEEE Verilog HDL standard 1364-1995.

The Electronic Design Automation Companies (San Jose, CA) membership voted to change the structure of EDAC to be similar to that of the Semiconductor Industry Association In the new structure, the executive board will be composed of 9 CEOs or COOs who will serve for a period of two years. EDAC's restructure will be complete in its 1997 fiscal year, beginning July 1, 1996. While the nine directors will be selected by popular vote of the general membership at EDAC's April 9, 1996 elections meeting, the new board members will represent the industry voice. The chairman of the board will be selected by the board members.

Intergraph Corp. (Huntsville, AL) announced its EDA division, Intergraph Electronics will now operate as a separate company. The new company, to be called VeriBest, Inc. will be headquartered in Boulder, CO with development offices in Huntsville, AL and Mountain View, CA. VeriBest will continue to develop EDA tools for Windows NT that will scale across the NT and SunOS operating systems, with a constant look and feel and binary compatible databases.

OrCAD, Inc. (Beaverton, OR), announced the acquisition of Intelligent Systems Japan, KK (Yokohama, Japan). ISJ has been OrCAD's exclusive Japan reseller, selling and supporting OrCAD products since 1990. ISJ has invested in its technical support infrastructure, Japanese language documentation, and customization of software for NEC platforms.

Mentor Graphics Corp. (Wilsonville, OR) announced that it merged with CoSoft Ltd., a UK-based company specializing in Windows-based schematic entry software. In addition, Mentor also announced the acquisition of 3Soft Corp. and Zeelan Technology .

AMP, Inc. (Harrisburg, PA) launches a global electronic service via Internet. The electronic catalog is available in several languages including English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and will soon be available in Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Korean. Users can access http://www.connect.amp.com through their preferred Internet connection or can receive a free disk from AMP, which includes Advantis and Netscape navigator software, with 30 days of free Internet access.

Though still above 1, the book-to-bill ratio has steadily declined since July. VLSI Research Inc. predicts another 0.01 point drop for January. However, the ratio is still accurately indicating excess demand despite a number of new fabs coming on-line.


Movers and Shakers

Mentor Graphics Corp. (Wilsonville, OR) announced the addition of Professor David A. Hodges , Dean of the college of engineering at the University of California at Berkeley, to its board of directors. Professor Hodges has been active in both teaching and research in microelectronics technology and design.

National Instruments named Don W. Holley as Industrial Automation Marketing Manager. He joins Mike Santori in guiding the direction of National Instruments products as they are applied to process and manufacturing automation applications.

Sony Semiconductor Company of America appointed Osamu (Sam) Yokoyama as vice-president of finance, Todd Oseth as vice-president of business development and Louis Chetaud as vice-president of central operations.

Crosspoint Solutions appointed Douglas L. Perry to the newly created position of director of applications engineering. Doug will report to Mike Levis , vice-president of marketing, and will manage applications engineering, customer training and design kit development activities.


Money Bits

Xilinx, Inc. (San Jose, CA) reported sequential revenue and earning growth for the third quarter, which ended December 30, 1995. Revenues rose to $144.1 million, up 58% from the $91.3 million reported during the third quarter of fiscal 1995, and up 2% from the $141.2 million in the immediately preceding quarter.

Lam Research Corp. (Freemont, CA) announced record revenues, profits, and bookings for its second quarter of fiscal 1996, ended December 31, 1995. For the second quarter of fiscal 1996, total revenues increased 68 percent to $290.5 million, compared to $172.7 million for the same period last year.

Quickturn (Mountain View, CA) announced that for the year ended December 31, 1995, revenue was $81.8 million, an increase of 25% over 1994 revenue of $65.5 million. Operating income was $11.7 million, an increase of 189% over the operating income of $4.1 million in 1994. Net income was $13.1 million or $0.90 per share, an increase of 184% over the net income of $4.6 million or $0.32 per share in 1994.

Synopsys .com/isdweb/&lf=isd-sendtolog"> Synopsys , Inc. (Mountain View, CA) reported revenue of $79,000,000 and net income of $11,650,000 (28 cents per share) in the first fiscal quarter of 1996, ended December 31, 1995. Compared with the first fiscal quarter of 1995, these results represent a 32% increase over revenue of $59,900,000 and a 49% increase over net income of $7,806,000 (20 cents per share).
