USB core Sand Microelectronics introduced its SANDesigner ADVantage tool kit, Universal Serial Bus (USB) device controller core (UDC), and a USB simulation model. The synthesizable core is available in either Verilog or VHDL and is usable in FPGAs and ASICs. Pricing for the UDC core starts at $90,000. The USB simulation model is $20,000. The company offers a free 30-day evaluation for the models. Sand Microelectronics Inc., Santa Clara, CA. Contact (408) 235-8600, or e-mail info@sandmicro.com, or www.sandmicro.com.

Microwave simulators Ansoft announced microwave ferrite device modeling capabilities in Maxwell Eminence. This EDA tool predicts microwave ferrite performance within a three-dimensional high-frequency solver. In addition, the company released Maxwell SI Spicelink. This software package for skin effect and dispersion analysis combines the accuracy of electromagnetic fields solutions with the flexibility of Spice. Pricing for the Maxwell 3-D Field simulator as an add-on to Maxwell Eminence is $19,900. Maxwell Eminence is $49,900, and Maxwell Spicelink is $34,900. All packages are available for either Unix or Windows NT platforms. Ansoft Corp., Pittsburgh, PA. Contact (412) 261-3200, e-mail info@ansoft.com, or www.ansoft.com.

Serial flash memory Xicor announced a 128-Kbit serial flash memory that operates at 1.8 V. The X24F128 SerialFlash memory is packaged in the small SOIC package and is specified to operate from 1.8 to 3.6 V for both program and read operations. Pricing for the X24F128 SerialFlash memory in a 16 lead SOIC package is $4.95 in 10,000 unit-quantities. Xicor Inc., Milpitas, CA. Contact (408) 432-8888, or e-mail info@smptgate.xicor.com, or www.xicor.com.

Low-power µC support WSI introduced a series of 5-V low-power MCU support chips that integrate EPROM, SRAM, and programmable logic. The ZPSD4XX series interface to any 8- or 16-bit MCU and provide up to 128 Kbytes of EPROM, 2 Kbytes of SRAM and a PLD with 37 inputs and 113 product terms. The parts have an automatic power-down mode that consumes only 5 µA in standby mode. Packages include 40-pin PLCC, and PCMCIA-compliant TQFP. Pricing starts at $9.47 in quantities of 5,000. WSI Inc., Fremont, CA. Contact (510) 656-5400 or www.wsipsd.com.

RF power amplifiers Triquint introduced two RF power amplifiers for cellular phone systems. The TQ9143 is for AMPS and TDMA systems and the TQ9147 is for AMPS phones and CDPD modems. Both devices are dual-stage power amplifiers with up to 1.4-W output. The parts are designed for 2.7- to 6-V supplies. Pricing for the TQ9147 starts at $3.25 in quantities of 100,000 and the TQ9143 is $4.50 in quantities of 100,000. The company also announced the availability of two more GaAs processes for foundry work. Triquint Semiconductor Inc., Beaverton, OR. Contact (503) 644-3535.
