IN THE NEWSBusiness and technology news from the semiconductor and design tool industries.
In the NewsCFI Inc. (Austin, TX) announced that the IEEE has approved a Project Authorization Request (PAR) P1481 for the delay calculation standard (DCS), which includes work to add a needed power calculation capability. With the addition of power calculation, the original DCS IEEE study group has been renamed the Delay and Power Calculation Work Group (DPC-WG). The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is working in parallel with the DPC-WG to ensure a worldwide standard. The U.S. Technical Advisory Group of the IEC has voted to submit a new work item proposal to the IEC Technical Committee 93 Working Group 2. VLSI Libraries Inc. (San Jose, CA) announced that it has legally changed the company name to Artisan Components Inc. Artisan Components adopted the new name to align the company more closely with its market focus. The company's line of physical IP components is tuned specifically to end-users' design processes and to aid with the development of system-level ICs and other complex devices. The formation of a new design tools supplier called Verysys Electronic Design Automation (Fremont, CA) was announced by principals of the firm. The new company will develop and market EDA software throughout the world, specializing in what it defines as "FeedForward" tools--essential for the design of exceedingly complex submicron integrated circuits. Verysys was founded in Berlin, Germany, in 1996, and opened its first U.S. office last November.
Moversand ShakersTaiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (San Jose, CA) announced that it has named Roger Fisher as the company's new director of strategic marketing. Verisity Design Inc. (Mountain View, CA), formerly InSpec Systems Inc., appointed Kathryn Kranen as its president and CEO. The VHDL International (Santa Clara, CA) Board of Directors elected Gabe Moretti , vice president of engineering at VeriBest (Boulder, CO), as its chairman. Steve Schulz, senior member of the technical staff within the Texas Instruments EDA Systems Group (Dallas, TX) and Integrated System Design contributing editor, was named president.
