This paper focuses on the merits of the JEDEC JESD204B digital interface for medical image capture sub-systems. Medical imaging scanners such as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanners are powerful, non-invasive tools for rapid, effective disease diagnostics. While early generation PET scanners had only a single ring of detectors, more recent PET scanners include multiple detector rings, essentially forming a cylinder of detectors. This architecture transition has increased the number of high-speed Analog-to-Digital Converters in these systems from hundreds to thousands of channels, escalating the need for highly efficient interconnects between the ADCs and the downstream Digital Signal Processing (DSP) and control processing elements.
