Product Design Constraints and Optimization

The whole relevance of product design comes from being pertinent to the industry context, industry needs, eco-system and more importantly, the customer. The designer needs to find a point on the technology curve that matches with the ecosystem and the customer use case. Embedded product design is about finding a point of global optimality to non-linearity brought in by constraints like, PCB real estate, power consumption, mechanical form factor, cost, time to market, vendor support and supply chain management. This paper discusses the constraints listed above to get a better understanding of the problems faced and likely solutions.
