Set your clocks to moron time

Randy Malone

We had three guys (including myself) in our first year dorm room. My one roommate and I grew up together and had similar interest and the same major, Electronics, in college. Many of our classes were also the same time/professor.

That left our other room-mate as the odd man out.

We had early lectures. Our room-mate did not. He would get to sleep in each morning. Near the end of the semester we had managed to complete a final exam very early and were released.

On the long walk back to the dorm room we conjured up a very successful prank on our room-mate. Upon returning we stealthfully set all the clocks and watches ahead several hours. We even had to adjust our room-mates watch. We then exited the room and came back in being a little noisy, so as to wake up our room-mate.

Upon noticing the wall clock at the foot of his bed. He jumped up exclaiming, “Oh shit, I’m late for my PE final”. He said he ran to the Physical Education complex, (about one-third mile) and upon arriving searched frantically for his instructor, who was also the Men’s Basketball coach. When he found him the coach was having a meeting with one of the other coaches on his staff. Our room-mate said that he said he apologized for missing the final test and when he asked if he could make it up the coach laughed and told him he is actually two hours early.

He said he felt like a moron.

Similar prank I played with my Aunt. My aunt used to love playing cards but was very particular to sleep before midnight. One night we all were playing cards and my aunt was checking the clock every now and then. at around 11.30 PM while she was engrossed in the play myself and my brother moved the clock back by half an hour. After each round the aunt used to check the clock. Every 15 minutes we used to reset the clock back to 11.30. This went on for almost two hours before my Aunt noticed that we were tricking her. You will imagine her face when she found it out! we ran for a safe distance ! But she was very sporty and took it all with a big laugh!

I can see this prank could still work even though the ability to check time on our cells and other electronics all around us. Most clocks and modern electronics still have to be told if your is in a Daylight Saving Time zone, so this prank can still be pulled provided that you have access to the utility to adjust cellpnoe/PDA time zone. But it is getting harder to pull since correct time is so readily available in most ubiquitous appliances, and many are getting to be self aware of location.
