Design West 2013 -- Call for papers

Clive Maxfield

Eeeek! The deadline for paper submissions for Design West 2013 is almost upon us!

Design West 2013 will be held 22 – 25 April 2013 at the McEnery Convention Center, San Jose, California. In addition to the world-famous Embedded Systems Conference (ESC), Design West will also feature a veritable cornucopia of other design summits.

There are going to be bunch of conference tracks as shown below (note especially the Tech Fundies track – this is the ideal place to explain fundamental concepts):

  • Tech Fundies
  • Connectivity and networking
  • Debugging and test
  • Development boards, systems and applications
  • Hardware: Design, I/O, and Interfacing
  • Low-Power design
  • Processors and Programmable Logic
  • Programming
  • Prototyping
  • RTOS and OS
  • Safety, security & hacking embedded systems
  • Systems

Ha Ha! I can hear you asking "Why is the Processors and Programmable Logic track highlighted?" Well, that's because yours truly is the track chair for this little rascal.

The thing is that the deadline to submit papers for Design West is 2 November, 2013, which is TOMORROW as I pen these words.

STOP THE PRESSES!!! I just heard that the deadline has been extended by a week -- so that gives us all just a little more breathing room -- but not much...

So, if you have something you would like to share with the rest of us, this would be a really good time to submit an abstract for a paper. I personally just submitted two abstracts of my own for the Tech Fundies track:

  • Programmable Devices 101
  • Radiation and Programmable Devices 101

In the case of my Processors and Programmable Logic track, I'm looking for embedded system-related topics featuring the use of processors (MPUs, MCUs, DSPs) and/or programmable devices (FPGAs, Programmable SoCs). In particular, I'm looking for case studies on interesting and innovative systems that discuss the reasoning behind any real-world design decisions that were made; e.g., single versus multiple processors/cores, soft versus hard processor cores, software (running on a processor) versus algorithms realized as hardware accelerators (implemented in programmable fabric), and so forth.

So delay no longer – CLICK HERE to bounce over to the Submissions Page on the Design West site and submit your abstracts NOW!
