A CD-ROM tutorial on perceptual audio coding titled "Perceptual Audio Coders: What to Listen For" is available from the AES. It's designed to familiarize listeners with various types of audio coding artifacts and help make it easier to recognize them.

The CD presents the underlying principles of perceptual audio coding - a technique used in lossy compression to eliminate sounds in digital audio content that theoretically cannot be perceived by the human ear - along with a variety of examples of coding artifacts, sorted according to type and severity.

The CD includes a total of three tutorials on audio coding principles and eight different chapters on audio coding artifacts. It's the first such educational/tutorial CD-ROM from the AES, and is available for $20.00 for non-members, $15.00 for members, $15.00 for student non-members and $10.00 for student members.
