It's for all the creeps watching tickers on TV.
--Fork in the Road, by Neil Young
As car songs go, the collection on Neil Young's recent album, "Fork in the Road," (Reprise Records, April, 2009) isn't bad.
It doesn't quite measure up to Bruce Springsteen's car classics like "Pink Cadillac" and "Cadillac Ranch." But of course those songs were written in a different time.
The title song on Young's new album may be seen as a turning point for future of personal transportation and the demise of the U.S. automobile-transportation complex. The SUV is dead. Good riddance.
But what will take it's place? Will anyone write car songs about the Prius or the Honda hybrid?
It worthwhile to think about these matters, and Neil Young again gives us something important to think about.

In case you hadn't noticed, the only vehicles that had increased sales year over year are SUVs and light trucks. They ain't dead yet.
And I won't be turning over my SUV for some government program because it provides utility for hauling an equipment trailer that your Prius won't be able to budge.
When it comes to vehicles, I'm pro-choice!

When it makes cents, it makes sense. Of course there are those who would like to tax/subsidize these "green" vehicles into existence. From an advocate's point of view, if the market doesn't force people to adopt your strategy, then change the market artificially.
