The newbie rules! (in Engineering Investigations, at least)

Brian Fuller is on vacation and though I know it to be impossible, my task is to try, at least temporarily, to  fill his shoes. I’ve been working in the “backroom” of EE Life since March, but this is my first public post. My own “newbie” status makes it feel rather good to announce that the winner of our latest Engineering Investigations contest also calls himself a newbie.

Join me in congratulating William Davison as the winner of this Engineering Investigations with his entry: “'Newbie' engineer and the attack of the solder blobs.” William will be the proud recipient of a Tektronix MSO2024 digital oscilloscope courtesy of our friends at Tektronix.

Out of a field of 15 entries, William won hands down with an amazing 46 votes. Second place went to David Kanceruk with 13 votes for his entry: “OK, your dad primes his fuel injected engine with gas and you fixed it with a TTL logic probe...what kind of family is this anyway?” And Mike Bergman’s “Knee deep in exploding mice” came in third with 7 votes. Congratulations to everyone who sent in an Investigation—you all showed again that perseverance (mixed with no small amount of engineering know-how) prevails!

Well done William, I enjoyed your story the first time and just reread it and enjoyed it just as much. Great faultfinding, and a story well told...a well deserved win.

Who could resist a title like "Knee deep in exploding mice"? Not I -- I just had to read that article.

Of course congrats go to William for his winning offering.

And hello to Naomi

I would really like some exploding mice. They could be the modern version of the "exploding cigar."
