EDA/IP Weekly Roundup – October 17th

This is a roundup of news or activities in the past few days that may be of interest to people.
Kilopass Technology has announced Gusto-2, its second generation of code storage products, to serve instant-on mobile devices. The targeted SoCs perform functions, such as digital monitoring, near-field communications (NFC), and other applications serving the emerging market of Internet of things. Gusto-2 provides the low power, large storage capacity, and performance these SoCs demand for execute-in-place in a silicon footprint equivalent to that of the shadow SRAM required to operate the external serial EEPROM or Flash being displaced.
ARM has introduced the first POP™ IP solution for ARM Mali™-T600 series graphics processor units (GPUs). This latest offering of POP IP -- core-hardening acceleration technology that produces the best implementations of ARM processors in the fastest time-to-market -- is optimized for the Mali-T628 and Mali-T678 on TSMC 28nm HPM process technology. Mali GPUs go into a variety of end devices, including a wide range of smartphones, from high performance to mass market, as well as tablets and smart TVs.
Cypress Semiconductor has released PSoC Designer™ 5.3, a new version of its Integrated Design Environment (IDE) for the PSoC® 1 Programmable System-on-Chip architecture. The new version includes over 30 new or enhanced User Modules, which are free “Virtual Chips,” represented by an icon, that are used to integrate multiple ICs and system interfaces into a single PSoC device. Also included in Version 5.3 are multiple new features to make designing with PSoC faster and easier. Some of the new User Modules are a Gas-sensing analog front end, a fan controller, a voltage sequencer, an SMBus Slave, and a Thermistor interface. It also contains a new auto-routing capability that simplifies the creation of systems using PSoC.
Premier Farnell, the parent company of element14 has received the 2012 Jive Award in the “Engage Customers” category. The award category recognizes organizations that build solutions to improve customer satisfaction while increasing loyalty and engagement. The element14 Community leverages social engagement to provide engineers with the tools and resources needed to simplify and reduce their design process. It functions as a centralized hub for peer collaboration, discussions, deep technical information, new product reviews, expert support, quality design services, and purchasing engineering components.
Arteris announced that the Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal ranked the company 4th on its annual Fast Private list, a ranking of Silicon Valley's fastest-growing private companies. The semiconductor design IP innovator joined other notable technology companies including Facebook (#10), Ambarella (#31), and Palo Alto Networks (#6), to name a few.
Sonics has announced that its licensee shipments have passed two billion units worldwide fueled by the growing demand for high-bandwidth content, like HD videos, music and games, found on connected devices, like smartphones, tablets and notebooks.
Sidense has announced that it has licensed its 1T-OTP memory IP to the Company’s 100th customer. The company also achieved the best fiscal year ending September 30th, with the highest bookings in the Company’s history.
CEVA says that it has reached a number of key milestones in relation to customer shipments and technology adoption. 4 billion CEVA-powered chips have now shipped to date, their DSPs have now powered audio/voice in more than 2 billion devices and CEVA has now achieved more than 20 customer design wins for its LTE/LTE-Advanced DSP technologies.
The Phil Kaufman Award for Distinguished Contributions to Electronic Design Automation (EDA) ceremony will move to the Design Automation Conference (DAC), announced sponsors EDA Consortium (EDAC) (www.edac.org) and IEEE Council on Electronic Design Automation (CEDA) (www.c-eda.org). Instead of the traditional Fall dinner in Silicon Valley, the presentation will be held Sunday, June 2, following the annual DAC Sunday Night Welcome Reception next year in Austin, Texas. The call for nominations for the Phil Kaufman Award has been extended until Thursday, January 31. All current and past nominations will be considered.
