Altium introduces “Ideas”

I just received a message from those clever guys and gals at Altium, who spake as follows:

Wouldn’t it be great if you could suggest new functionality or a new feature for the software you use for work every day? And wouldn’t it be even better if software vendors actually listened to those suggestions and implemented the best ideas? Altium is introducing just such a system. It’s called “Ideas” and it has just been rolled out to the 37,000 registered users on the AltiumLive online community.

{Note that the black lines in this image are because Altium didn't want
to share these names and companies without permission}

With the Ideas system, users have the ability to submit ideas for implementation by Altium. The community can then comment and vote for the best ideas that grab their attention, helping to promote those ideas to the top of the queue, in terms of what the community would like to see Altium implement. Not all ideas can be implemented of course, but the most popular, feasible suggestions will be submitted to development by Altium, and their implementation will be guaranteed in a future update to Altium Designer.

The Ideas system is a new way for Altium users to share experiences and opinions about the future make-up of Altium Design solutions. And it gives organizations a bigger stake in the software in which they've made an investment, by allowing them to have a say on how the software evolves. Altium product managers will participate directly in discussions about suggestions. It is hoped that the Ideas system will continue to evolve and mature into a tool to better direct parts of Altium's R&D resources where the AltiumLive community thinks they should go.

Altium invites its users to think about the features they regularly use. What could be improved? What could shave critical time off of project timelines – if only it existed in the software. Designers may be pleasantly surprised at how much interest (and votes) their idea attracts from other members of the community. After all, every feature in Altium Designer started off as an Idea!

The Ideas system has its very own space within the wider AltiumLive community and any registered user can submit an idea. Access can be made from anywhere within the AltiumLive site simply by clicking the Ideas link at the top of a page.
