Image Sensors to hit $3.7 billion in 2017

According to a new report by Transparency Market Research, U.S. image sensors including linear, CCD, and x-ray are expected to reach $3.7 billion in 2017, up from $2.0 billion in 2011.

84.2% of the gain is attributable to linear image sensors, yet the x-ray segment will have the fastest revenue growth with a CAGR of 18.8%. CMOS image sensor shipments reached a whopping 464.0 million units in 2011, a growth of 27.6% over 2010, not surprising as they account for 90% of the linear image sensor market.

What’s important to remember is that these revenue numbers are particularly impressive given the sharp decline in sensor prices over the past several years, with the trend expected to continue.

The report covers such applications as portable, medical, toys and astronomy, machine vision systems, document scanning and automotive. More information can be found at: Image Sensors Market—The U.S. Industry Analysis Market Share, Trends and Forecast, 2011 – 2017.
