DESIGN West: The rise of embedded vision

As I may have mentioned on the odd occasion (grin), the DESIGN West 2013 Conference and Exhibition is almost upon us.

One of the hot topics in Embedded Space at the moment is that of Embedded Vision – the creation of machines that see. And one of the best sources of information on Embedded Vision is, of course, the Embedded Vision Alliance. If you are planning on attending DESIGN West, make sure you check out the Embedded Vision Summit, which will take place on April 25 in the San Jose Convention Center.

In the case of DESIGN West itself, there are so many tracks with so many incredible papers and sessions that they leave you drooling with desire on the one hand, and gnashing your teeth and rending your garb on the other (because it isn’t physically possible to attend them all).

The simple answer, of course, is to focus on the best track of all--the Processors and Programmable Devices Track--which is, of course, chaired by yours truly.

Previously I blogged about the Yes, We CAN Hear You Now! The Rise of Embedded Speech presentation, which is to be given by the folks at Sensory (Click Here to see that blog).

Well, a perfect complement to that talk will be the We See You! The Rise Of Embedded Vision presentation, which is to be given by Carlton Heard, a Product Engineer at National Instruments.

[Click here to register for DESIGN West 2013, April 22-25 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Options range from an All-Access Pass -- which includes Black Hat (security) Conference Session to Free Expo Admission].

The abstract for this session is as follows:

Embedded vision is everywhere around us, including industrial automation, surveillance, automotive safety systems, medical devices, and the hottest kids’ toys. The number of embedded systems using vision is increasing at an incredible rate -- if you’re not involved in this technology now, the chances are you will be soon. But how is embedded vision achieved, and how can we accelerate embedded vision applications? This session will discuss applications and system design considerations for embedded vision. Also considered will be some of the current challenges and possible implementation choices to overcome these challenges.

I for one cannot wait to see this presentation. I think we will be seeing embedded speech and embedded vision appearing in all sorts of appliances and products and systems in the very near future.

Hopefully I will see you there. What? You haven’t registered yet? Tell me you are joking! Well, do not delay--let's have no more dilly-dallying or shilly-shallying--instead, immediately Click Here to Register for the conference before all the good seats are snapped up!

Comedian Yakov Smirnoff once said: "In America, you watch television. In Soviet Russia, television watch you!"

Having seen "1984" at an impressionable age, I'm not at all comfy with having electronic devices watching me.
