A few weeks ago I did a short news story  on the use of the Cypress PSoC 3 programmable system-on-chip in the the Oscium iMSO-104 mixed signal oscilloscope is for use on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad.

Now my colleague over at EDN, Brian Dipert, has written an in-depth review of the device which is priced at $297.99.

And there is more to come as the test unit has been passed over to fellow EDN editor Paul Rako who is preparing a more thorough analog-centric evaluation to compliment Brian's digital take.

One might say that $300 is a lot of money at this moment, but have you any clue what you can do with (free) soft updates? The functionality you can create here is endless!
Further, with the Apple OS in use here one certainly can tell that this app will work properly. Numerous and numerous WIN users we always have to explain that since we updated our engineering to Apple we have ZERO problems anymore. The time saving is enormous, hence, we spend our time in engineering rather than debugging our network or install flakey software.
Just my 5 cents....

TOY... If I want an oscilloscope I would buy one - the real one. This is only aproximatization of what an osc. should be. There is clear trend which I find wery annoying, to cram everything thinkable inside I- whatever...And it's not cheap ither. Taking into account, that you need an I-pad to run it anyway. 5Mhz BW is laughable for new millenium standards. For this money you could buy a decent multimeter with chart recorder today - which is properly outfitted for measurement. for real HW guy, this is heresy. Ask Tektronics, Agilent, Yokogawa and such what they think :)))
