Daniel Guidera's funky image of a rope-twirlin' cowboy in the lab yielded the closest caption contest voting in history, with Bob Spooner (Bob985) edging Joe Ott (JOtt) by a single vote!

Bob earns the adulation of his peers and the thanks of a grateful editor. He also wins a color and ink version of Guidera's masterpiece.

His take was breathtakingly simple: "TI Acquires National Semiconductor." That caption narrowly beat JOtt's in the online voting:

"Now the new hire understood why every one just smiled when she told them she was going to learn the ropes from the old timer."

These were followed by the three other finalists (in order):
  • First we round up a herd of new college recruits, and then we imprint our corporate brand on them. (Don Swabb)
  • Looks like the CEO is in acquisition mode, again. (JOtt) (tie with Swabb)
  • Try as he might, Vern never could quite understand current steering. (Rick Hille)

The June caption contest is open and ready for your wit!
