Xilinx to demo Zynq-7000 EPP SW/HW development tools at ARM TechCon 2011

Well, things are certainly buzzing along at the moment. For example, I just heard from the guys and gals at Xilinx about their participation at the forthcoming ARM TechCon 2011 in Santa Clara, from October 25-27, Santa Clara Convention Center, Booth #207.

I only wish I could be at the ARM TechCon myself, but I will be in Sheffield, England, that week visiting my dear old mom and little bro’. However, this is not to say that I won’t be keeping my “finger on the pulse” of things, as it were, because just a few minutes ago (as I pen these words) I arranged to meet up with someone from ARM while I’m in Sheffield to discuss various nitty-gritty techno-weenie topics about which I shall be writing shortly.

But we digress…

During the conference, Xilinx experts will discuss their Zynq-7000 EPP, which they proudly describe as “A new class of processing platform that combines an industry-standard ARM dual-core Cortex-A9 MPCore processing system with Xilnx 28nm programmable logic architecture.”

Attendees will also be able to see demonstrations of Zynq-7000 EPP development systems, such as DSP co-processing, Android and image processing, and Linux and Android debug with ARM DS-5.

Paper Sessions
Thursday, Oct. 27: 12:00 p.m. – 12:50 p.m., Room #206
ARM processor-based ASSPs with Programmable Logic – A New Generation of Systems On a Chip
In this session, Xilinx Senior Processor Technical Marketing Manager, Glenn Steiner, and Xilinx Senior Manager of Processing Technical Marketing, Greg Brown, will take a quick look at the history of integration of processor systems with programmable logic, review current and future market offerings, and cover the tradeoffs between the different offerings. Steiner and Brown will also show attendees how to use these products to implement their own custom application specific System On a Chip.

Thursday, Oct. 27: 4:00 p.m. – 4:50 p.m., Room #212
An ARM Processing System with a Flexible FPGA – How the Whole is Greater Than the Sum
During this presentation, Steiner and Brown will briefly review the history of processors in FPGAs and then examine the newest market offerings based on ARM processors. Using real-world examples, Steiner and Brown will also examine the value propositions of having a tight integration of a processor system with programmable logic demonstrating improved system performance, lower effective power, and lower system cost.

Exhibition Demos
Tuesday-Thursday, Oct. 25-27

Zynq-7000 EPP Emulation Platform – Web Server & DSP Co-processing
Xilinx will highlight high performance processing for medical imaging applications, DSP image processing in programmable logic, and co-processor acceleration of image processing using the Zynq-7000 EPP emulation platform.

Zynq-7000 EPP Emulation Platform – Android & Image Processing
As well as showing Android 2.2 system inter-operability validation, this demonstration will show the ability of the Zynq-7000 EPP to capture video via an FMC, perform image processing in programmable logic and then display on a customer created FMC.

Linux and Android debug with ARM DS-5
Xilinx and ARM will exhibit the ARM DS-5 tools debug and profile Linux and Android applications on dual Cortex-A9 processors on the Xilinx Zynq-700 EPP emulation platform.
