JEDEC goes wide with mobile DRAM

Last week, JEDEC announced a new standard for wide I/O mobile DRAM: JESD229 Wide I/O Single Data Rate (SDR). The standard aims to address the call for increased levels of integration as well as improved bandwidth, latency, power, weight and form factor.
Target applications include smartphones, tablets, handheld gaming consoles and other mobile devices. If you need a copy of the standard, you can have it for free here.
In the meantime, please weigh in below. Do we need a standard specifically for wide I/O mobile DRAM? How will this help? What standards do you wish we had?
