Don't fall in the… arrggghhh!!!

I just saw a couple of very interesting pictures. I'm not sure if they are real or not. Check out the first one, which appears to show some monster potholes:

The title of the message sent to me was "Those clever Canadians!" The gist of the message was that as an alternative to using speed cameras and other threats to slow drivers down, they have started using photo-realistic images of holes that can be picked up and moved around.

It seems to me that there are several flaws with this otherwise cunning scheme (assuming it to be real, of course). For example, an inattentive driver (on the phone, combing hair, whatever) might not see the fake hole until the last moment, at which time they might swerve to avoid the hole and cause a wreck or run off the road.

Alternatively, drivers might become so used to these things that they don't bother to slow down or avoid them, which would be unfortunate should the hole be a real one (grin).

Of course the biggest problem with these fake holes would be that everyone would want them – I'd quite like one to put in my drive and surprise my wife (Gina the Gorgeous) and my 17-year old son.

As a somewhat related point, I heard a joke about two lady bowling teams – one of all Blondes and one of all Brunettes – who charter a double-decker bus for a weekend trip to Louisiana.

The Brunette team decided to ride on the bottom of the bus, while the Blonde team opted for the upper level. During the trip the Brunette team were having a great time, really whooping it up, when they realize that they haven't heard anything from the Blondes upstairs, so they send one of their number upstairs to investigate…

When the Brunette reaches the top, she finds all of the Blondes in abject fear, staring straight ahead at the road and clutching the seats in front of them with white knuckles..

So the brunette says "What the heck is going on up here? We're having a great time downstairs!"

One of the Blondes looks at her, swallows hard, and whispers… "It's OK for you – you've got a driver!"

Hey, I didn’t say it was a good joke :-)

Search for "street painting" in google images and you'll find lots of similar and even cooler "hole in the ground" images.

I've seen a lot of those street painting images before -- they are absolutely INCREDIBLE -- mind blowing.

But the "hole" images in this blog are not intended to compete with those street paintings

Wow, for a moment there it was 1950, when making demeaning jokes about women was still considered funny.

I really think it's possible to be just a tad too "politically correct"

I did not intend this to be demeaning in any way -- the joke itself was actually sent to me by the same business colleague (a blond-haired lady) who sent the images of the fake holes.

If you have any blond-haired men jokes, please feel free to share them with the rest of us...

Nic,
You are taking life to seriously, please chillax. Very close blond friends are the first ones to bring up this type of jokes in a conversation.

I think we blondes (women) always make more jokes about ourselves than anyone else does, so perhaps that's why we don't feel demeaned. The idea of no driver on the top of a double-decker seemed quite funny...

I'd have to say the first is not from Canuckistan either (that's Canada for the non-comediens out there).

From the first photo, the far trees look almost tropical, the bike lane is on the left (normally on right in Canada), the curb is painted black/white which is something not done in the Great White North. The median on the right suggests these are right hand drive vehicles.

India is an excellent guess, but two things confuse me about that: The Auto Rickshaw appears to have 4 wheels not 3, and the vehicles are actually driving within the painted lines instead of merely treating them as suggestions :)

So how many english speaking, tropical, right hand drive countries could there be?

I'll save everyone the click...
Ill leave all the possible images to each reader, except it has //'s to the internet.

A scientist, Professor Calvin Q. Calculus, successfully creates a portable hole invention, despite disapproval from his nagging wife. He displays his creation in a newsreel, showcasing the various uses for a portable hole: Rescuing a baby from a safe, cheating at your golf game, and giving dogs a new place to bury their bones. Spurred by the film, a thief steals Calvin's portable hole and uses it for criminal purposes, including emptying Fort Knox and abducting a dancing girl from a burlesque house. However, he is chased by the police until he is backed against a wall; he uses the last portable hole in the briefcase to go through the wall and seemingly escape, but it's revealed that the other side is inside a prison. Calvin reads about the arrest in the paper and is glad, but Calvin's domineering wife chews him out for not treating her right. In retaliation, Calvin creates one more portable hole and throws it on the floor. The wife steps in it and falls through it. After a few seconds, Satan comes up the portable hole, throws her back to Earth and replies: "Isn't it bad enough down there without her?"
