The event was thrown in honor of Forte Design founder John Sanguinetti, who is fighting a rare type of bone cancer called multiple myeloma.

A large portion of the money raised through the event came from EDA executives bidding generously on dinners with each other.

In the auction hosted by EDA Gadfly John Cooley, Paul de Dood founder and CEO of Prolific won a dinner with Mentor CEO Wally Rhines for $10,000, while Rhines paid $6,000 for a dinner with Synopsys CEO Aart de Geus. Ray Bingham, Cadence's chairman outbid attendees and paid $10,000 for a dinner with his own president and CEO, Mike Fister.

Andrew Yang, CEO of Apache paid $2,500 outbid attendees for a dinner with Magma CEO Rajeev Madhavan.

Madhavan himself made the largest single contribution by matching fundraiser donations with $50,000.

Kathryn Kranen, CEO of Jasper, and Jacob Jacobsson, CEO of Forte, pooled their funds to bid $1,500 for a dinner cooked by yours truly, and Gartner Dataquest analyst Gary Smith.

A dinner with EE Times editor in chief Brian Fuller and Richard Goering went to Rick Carlson, vice president of world wide sales at EDA startup Verific for $525.

A significant amount of money was also raised through a silent auction at the event. Items in the auction included bottles of wine from various donors and a top end gaming PC, which donated by nVidia.

The balance of the money was raised through corporate donations. Deutsche Bank donated $15,000; while Magma, Mentor Graphics, O'Melveny and Myers, and Sigma Partners donated $5,000.

The following companies donated between $1,000 and $5,000: @HDL, Accellera, Cadence, Catalytic Inc., CoWare, Doublewide Software, EVE, Fishtail Design Automation, Forte Design Systems, NEC Electronics America, Nassda Corp., Needham and Co., NVidia, Novas Software Inc., Reed Business Information, Sierra Design Automation, Smart Forest Ventures LLC, Tharas Systems, Telos Venture Partners, Tenison EDA Time to Market Inc., Venglobal Partners, and Verific Design Automation.

The money raised from the event will go to the Multiple Myloma foundation.
