WASHINGTON Lucent Technologies said Tuesday (Jan. 11) it will integrate WiMAX technology from partner Alvarion into its future communications products.
Lucent (Murray Hill, N.J.) said it will use Alvarion's IEEE 802.16-based BreezeMAX system in its Accelerate line of wireless products. Lucent said the move will help its customers complement their existing 3G mobile and wireline networks with WiMAX.
BreezeMAX is Alvarion's 3G OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) platform.
The partnership with Lucent "will be a vehicle in the evolution of the fixed broadband wireless market to widespread availability of mobile broadband and reflects our commitment to the future of WiMAX," Alvarion CEO Zvi Slonimsky said in a statement.
