BANGALORE, India — Wipro Technologies, the design services arm of Wipro Ltd., demonstrated video transfer between two laptops using ultrawideband (UWB) technology.

The demonstration Thursday (Sept. 29) at the Wireless USB Devcon in Tokyo used Wipro's WiMedia MAC IP core and third-party PHY along RF modules in accordance with the WiMedia Alliance’s Common Radio Platform.

Wipro also announced its development plan and roadmap for its Device IP Core based on the certified wireless USB specification from the USB-IF. “This demonstration is very significant because it has taken our WiMedia MAC IP core into the realm of real life application. We are committed to strengthening the WiMedia Alliance’s UWB ecosystem by providing IPs and associated services around the technology,” said A. Vasudevan, vice president, VLSI, Wipro Technologies.

Wipro joins a group of companies demonstrating a functioning UWB protocol. Wipro’s WiMedia MAC IP core will soon be transferred to silicon.
