LONDON — Gigle Semiconductor Ltd, a startup fabless semiconductor company developing system-on-chip integrated circuits for home networking applications, is recruiting engineers for a range of activities from systems architecture and algorithm definition to embedded firmware developers.

Venture-backed Gigle has offices in Edinburgh, Scotland and Barcelona, Spain, and is seeking chip architecture designers, digital IC designers, analog IC designers, physical design and analog layout engineers, embedded firmware engineers and hardware and application engineers, as well as project managers and marketing executives.

Founded in 2005, Gigle is backed by Accel Partners and has received £16,667 (about $29,000) in the form of a government development grant.

According to a description from Scottish Enterprise — the Scots local development authority — Gigle intends to develop chips for networks that allow consumers to share digital content, such as movies and television broadcasts, music, online gaming and other information, between multiple pieces of consumer electronics equipment in the home — a step towards the “ambient electronics environment” much discussed by Philips Electronics.

Gigle intends to use advanced design techniques and deep sub-micron CMOS manufacturing process and produce chips with better performance, coverage and quality of service to other communication technologies such as WiFi, a Scottish Enterprise website said.

Gigle’s integrated circuits are designed to be included easily within consumer and IT products, such as high definition televisions, DVD players and recorders, home media servers, home gateways and PCs, the website said.
