Heard on the Beat: ATI scraps chipsets

8/23/2006 5:05 PM EDT

ATI Technologies Inc. has scrapped the launch of its 65-nm chipsets optimized for Intel Corp.'s processors, according to the Commercial Times in Taiwan. The chipsets include the RD700, RS700 and RC710, which were due in 2007, the report said.

No big surprise here, especially after Advanced Micro Devices Inc. acquired ATI. Why would Intel want to help propel a rival chipset?
