SAN JOSE, Calif. — Cadence Design Systems Inc. has acquired Clear Shape Technologies Inc., a design-for-manufacturing (DFM) technology company.

The move expands Cadence's efforts in DFM. Traditional DFM-enabled lithography analysis products take days or weeks to run, according to Cadence.

Clear Shape is focused on delivering a ''Variability Platform'' that allows designers to control and optimize the parametric and catastrophic impact of systematic manufacturing variations. Clear Shape products are targeted to cell-based, custom analog, IP, and library designers using sub-90 nm processes.

The EDA firm's investors Intel Capital and KT Ventures, the venture arm of KLA-Tencor Corp.

"We think there's a lot of momentum to be gained by integrating Clear Shape's predictive, manufacturing-OPC-tool independent, validated-in-silicon lithography capabilities into the Cadence DFM environment," said Atul Sharan, president and chief executive of Clear Shape, in a statement.

The acquisition was completed on Aug. 15. Terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.
