SAN FRANCISCO—Analog system-on-chip (SoC) vendor Avnera Corp. said Friday (Jan. 15) it closed $10 million in funding from existing investors and a new backer, Japanese consumer electronics vendor Onkyo Corp.

Avnera (Beaverton, Ore.) said it is working jointly with Onkyo on several products that are expected to hit the market in the second half of 2010.

Late last year Avnera unveiled what it touted the world's first multi-point to multi-point wireless audio chip, AudioMagic, a second-generation mixed-signal technology that enables up to 10 devices to send and receive wireless HD audio. The company, founded in 2004, has more than 10 analog SoCs in mass production, including the VoiceMagic familiy.

"We are very impressed by Avnera's world-class technologies and broad portfolio of ASoCs," said Munenori Ohtsuki, Onkyo's chief operating officer, in a statement.

Avnera said it has now raised $52 million in venture funding in four rounds of financing from Altien Ventures, Bessemer Venture Partners, Best Buy Capital, DAG Ventures, Intel Capital, JAFCO Ventures, Onkyo, Panasonic Venture Group, Polycom Corp. and Redpoint Ventures.
