Ozmo hires veteran as CEO

LONDON — Ozmo Devices Inc. (Palo Alto, Calif.), a provider of Wi-Fi Personal Area Network (Wi-Fi PAN) chips, has recruited Bill McLean to serve as chief executive officer.

McClean has had an extensive career in wireless, including experience of Wi-Fi and GPS technologies. He was co-founder and CEO of GloNav, a fabless semiconductor company that manufactured GPS receivers for the cellular market. He sold the company to NXP for $110 million in 2008. Previously, McClean was president and CEO of Anadigm, a fabless semiconductor company producing field programmable analog arrays (FPAAs). McClean has also served as president of U.S. operations for Parthus Technologies. McClean has also worked at Authentec and Harris Corp. and began his career at Texas Intruments. McClean replaces Dave Lyon as CEO of Ozmo.

Ozmo, founded as H-Stream Wireless in December 2004, provides chips for low-power Wi-Fi PANs for peripherals such as Wi-Fi-enabled PCs, smartphones, multimedia players, and game consoles. Proponents of Ozmo and its technology argue that low-power Wi-Fi outperforms legacy technology, such as Bluetooth.

"With his proven leadership and success in managing technology companies, Bill is the right person to lead Ozmo Devices into its next major growth and development phase," said board member Len Rand, managing director at Granite Ventures, in a statement issued by Ozmo.

"Ozmo's breakthrough technologies, combined with the Wi-Fi Certified Wi-Fi Direct standardization program, create a tremendous market opportunity for Ozmo," said McLean, in the same statement.
