San Jose, Calif. — Manufactured with an E-pHEMT process, a family of power amplifier modules have been unleashed for CDMA and GSM designs. The two CDMA modules offer a PAE of 40 percent with a single positive power supply. A tri-band GSM power amp module is also available that offers a PAE of up to 60 percent in the 900 MHz band and 56 percent in 1800/1900 MHz bands. The GSM module is also capable of Class 12 operation for 2.5G applications such as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS).

Agilent's CDMA modules are the ACPM-7813, which addresses the 800-MHz dual-mode band, and the ACPM-7833, which operates in the 1,900-MHz (PCS) range for handsets and wireless data terminal applications. The ACPM-7891 module targets tri-band GSM/GPRS phones.

The ACPM-7813, in a 4 x 4 x 1.1-mm SMT package, operates over the 824- to 849-MHz frequency range, and features 28.5-dBm linear output power at 3.4 volts. Specification-compliant linear operation can be realized from supply voltages between 3.2 and 4.2 V, with minimum performance reduction at 3 V, the company said. In the same-size package, the ACPM-7833 operates over 1,850 to 1,910 MHz with 28.5-dBm linear output power at 3.4 V.

The ACPM-7891 GSM module is packaged in a 6 x 12 x 1.8-mm SMT package and operates over the 900-MHz EGSM, 1,800-MHz DCS and 1,900-MHz PCS frequency ranges. It features 35-dBm linear output power at 2.2 V in EGSM mode and 32.5-dBm linear output power at 2.2 V in DCS/PCS mode. It operates from supply voltages between 3 and 5.3 V, with minimum performance reduction at 2.7 V.
