Watchdog timer lowers power

SUNNYVALE, CALIF. — Watchdog timer supervisory circuits from Maxim Integrated Products come in eight-pin SOT-23 packages, require no external components and consume 5 microamps.

The MAX6369, MAX6371, MAX6372, MAX6373 and MAX6374 claim to increase system reliability by detecting code execution errors. When a system is not operating properly, the devices reset or interrupt the microprocessor to signal a fault condition. The pin-selectable parts provide 24 timing combinations. The watchdog timeout period can be adjusted from 1 millisecond to 60 seconds. A similarly adjustable startup-delay feature disables the watchdog during power-up or during a change in the watchdog timeout period to allow full system initialization.

Prices start at 98 cents in quantities of 2,500.
