Industry veteran Dr. Nazzareno Rossetti (Fairchild Semiconductor) delivers both IC and system-level power-supply design analysis and understanding in "Managing Power Electronics: VLSI and DSP-Driven Computer Systems", from Wiley-Interscience/IEEE Press. The book starts with IC process basics, but goes well beyond choosing the best processes and packages. It looks at both building an efficient and reliable supply from the bottom-up transistor level, as well as top-down, system-level architectures. Although much of the book focuses on various DC/DC and AC/DC topologies, it also looks at specific cases of powering large memory subsystems, set top boxes, and even ultra-portable devices.
