Palo Alto, Calif. HP said it has introduced the industry's first business PCs configurable to meet the new hardware standards of the Energy Star 4.0 specification. The Environmental Protection Agency's more stringent energy-efficient specification will go into effect on July 20, 2007.
The HP Compaq dc5700, dc5750 and dc7700 desktop PCs are designed to meet business customers' growing requirements for more efficient power management and cooling. When configured to meet the Energy Star 4.0 requirements, the reduced energy consumption of the PC can result in an increase in system reliability, a reduction in system maintenance costs, as well as decreased air conditioning costs, all due to less heat generation, said HP.
HP is also the first PC manufacturer to offer 80 percent efficient power supplies, a key component of the Energy Star 4.0 regulations. When configured with the other Energy Star 4.0 hardware requirements, HP lab tests have found choosing the optional 80 percent efficient power supplies can reduce total system power consumption by as much as 52%, translating into an average annual cost savings range from $6 to $65 per PC.
HP is a sponsor of the 80PLUS program, a utility-funded incentive program to integrate energy-efficient power supplies into desktop computers and servers, and has nearly 50 products registered with EPEAT, an EPA-sponsored procurement tool designed to help buyers compare and select desktop computers, notebooks and monitors based on their environmental attributes.
In addition, the HP Compaq dc5750 business PC introduced late last year was a first to provide a processor option that consumed less power, with the help of AMD 35-watt processors and Cool 'n' Quiet technology. HP was also the first major PC manufacturer to ship an S3 power management-ready system, which saves energy by automatically switching the PC into a standby, low-power mode after a period of inactivity. S3 power management is enabled by default on all HP business desktop PCs, and conserves up to 294 kWh per desktop PC annually.
Pricing: Energy Star 4.0 skus are available now with the HP Compaq dc5700 and dc7700 business desktop PCs featuring Intel Core 2 Duo processors, 80 GB hard drives and 1 GB of memory with Microsoft Windows XP Pro, starting at $899 and $959, respectively. Energy Star 4.0 configurations are also available with AMD Athlon processors, 80 GB hard drives and 512 GB of memory with Microsoft Windows XP Pro, starting at $609.
